Raglan
The village of Raglan lies in the centre of Monmouthshire, between the two valleys of the Wye and the Usk. The busy working village is strong on community and retains many highly regarded businesses, from tradesmen to the Beaufort Hotel, as well as pulling together wonderful floral displays which have earned honours through Wales in Bloom.
Raglan is most famous for its' majestic castle, which dates from the 15th century and is therefore one of the latest of all Welsh castles. The stronghold last saw active service during one of the longest sieges of the English Civil War, after which the walls were undermined by the Roundheads and parts of the fabric crashed to ruins.
Today, visitors are drawn to Raglan for its' vibrant music and dance festival, which takes place each June. A variety of concerts from rock, jazz, blues and classical artists culminates in star-studded performances each evening at the Beaufort Hotel.
